Avenue Q is one of my favorite Broadway shows.
It is not only hilarious, but also inspiring, in a different way. It like a sesame street show but is definitely not child friendly. (Maybe PG-13)
Puppets can say many things that people can't: Racist, sexual orientation, porn, and "happiness at the misfortune of others". When puppets say it, it's funny, joyful, and true. But when people say it, it sounds ...... just not politically correct.
The core message of the show is that life isn't smooth. Sometimes it sucks to be yourself. Being unemployed, not having a date, missing all the free throws in a big game, being cheated on and dumped twice in the same relationship, seeing partner off to the States alone while it was the left-behind person's idea to study abroad .......
Life is as hard and tough as it could be.
Nothing lasts, life goes on, full of surprises.
And yet, everything, both happiness and sadness, both serendipity and misfortune, are only for now.
"For Now" - Avenue Q @ Bryant Park 2007 (almost the same cast when I saw it in NYC)
